Tour Description
Clare Valley continues to be known as the home of Australian Riesling. As Australian wine regions go, Clare Valley is small, accounting for 1.5% of the nations crush. But its boutique wines are select and moreover, they’re taking the world by storm. The stone villages are little changed from the days of the bullock-dray, the grand pastoral properties still look out over immense rolling hills and we treasure the pockets of pristine bushland.
Depart with this small group tour from Adelaide. You will begin your day of exploration northward through the beautiful and historic township of Gawler. See many of the heritage listed stone homes and buildings as we pass through the city centre and continue north to Freeling where the famous McLeod’s Daughters television series was partly filmed. We will pass the ‘Gungellan Hotel and Truck stop’ and allow time for a quick photo.
Next stop is the historic town of Kapunda where Australia’s copper industry truly began in 1838 and the highest grade copper ore in the world was discovered. Morning tea is in the quaint Main Street bakery. Paulett Wines will be your introduction to the various wine styles before lunch at the Sevenhill Hotel. After an ample country pub style meal you will stop at Sevenhill Cellars and then Annie’s Lane at Queltaler for some more tastings.
From here the tour continues over the range to Balaklava and returns to Adelaide via the fertile plains north of the city.
