Tour Description
Explore one of the most beautiful islands and 'great walks' of the Whitsundays.
South Molle Island is one of the most beautiful and accessible islands in the Whitsundays National Park. The island has a rich indigenous history, is abundant in native flora and fauna and its shoreline of beautiful bays and beaches (17 of them) is encircled by coral reef. The island and the surrounding waters are protected as they are a part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
It is without doubt the best place to enjoy magnificent island bush walks. The island is home to over 17 kilometres of bush walks – all with well maintained tracks, stunning views and destinations. There is a range of walks of varying lengths – go hiking for the day or just head for your very own secluded beach. The Spion Kop Track is a feature walk of the Ngaro Sea Trail Great Walk and was rated the number one island walk in Queensland by Australian Geographic. The Ngaro Aboriginal people lived here in the Whitsundays for over 9,000 years. An ancient stone quarry where they made tools and weapons is one of the many highlights on the walk.
Eucalypt forests clothe the hillsides, rainforest grows in sheltered gullies and grasslands cover the more exposed slopes. The island is a haven for birdlife – sea eagles, kookaburras, cockatoos and rainbow lorikeets to name but a few. The island is also home to goanna and a large fruit bat colony. Bauer Bay where Adventure Island Resort is located is frequented by dolphins, turtles, stingrays, the elusive dugong and a myriad of fish. Great for snorkelling or just look down from the jetty!
