Tour Description

Whitsunday Crocodile Safari, operated by Proserpine River Eco Tours, is a full day nature exploration into the estuaries and wetlands of the Whitsundays. Operating 7 days a week the Safari’s aim is to provide a fully guided and safe, Australian nature experience that encompasses the unique tropical environment which is home to many species of native birds, mammals, reptiles and marine animals, including up to 150 estuarine crocodiles.

The Safari departs from Airlie Beach each morning, with pick ups along the way through Cannonvale and Proserpine, and travels to Glen Isla, which is a district of Proserpine, returning in the late afternoon. Our small group numbers (maximum 30 on each vehicle) ensure personal contact with our experienced guides.

Features of the Safari include a calm-water cruise on the Proserpine River with crocodile watching. The Proserpine River is home to the saltwater (estuarine) crocodile as well as many other residents of the mangrove habitat. Our river boat is ideal for crocodile spotting with 360º viewing, individual seating and drop down, all weather clears.

You will also join our open air, wagon-train tour through the nationally listed Goorganga wetlands, natural waterholes, pastures and melaleuca forest which are home to a variety of birdlife, native mammals, and reptiles.

To complement your 'naturally Australian' experience, the Whitsunday Crocodile Safari includes billy tea and damper, freshly cooked by our guides on an open fire. We will also cook you a barbeque lunch under our large covered picnic area, fully equipped with tables, chairs and toilet.

Our experienced guides will deliver a comprehensive commentary throughout the day, highlighting interesting facts and features about the wildlife you encounter.

Proserpine River Eco Tours holds advanced eco certification with the Ecotourism Australia, for its Whitsunday Crocodile Safari, and has been operating since 2000.

The land we travel through is privately owned, and we are the only commercial tourism operator on the Proserpine River. The sound of nature is our background noise and you will feel like you are miles away from civilization, deep in the Australian bush.
