With a morning pickup (approximately 8am) from the Star City Coach Terminal, Pirrama Road, Sydney, or earlier from your CBD accommodation, you’ll be able to relax and take in the scenery on your way to the Blue Mountains. Your driver will tell you about your day ahead on your journey to visit the following locations:
Katoomba – the gateway to the Blue Mountains – is a quaint mountain town that was established in 1879 and still retains its old-world charm. Attractive heritage hotels, guest houses, restaurants and cafés dot this lovely area.
The World Heritage listed Echo Point is a mountainous area offering stunning views over its 10,000 square kilometre area. Deep canyons edged by majestic cliff faces and full of lush eucalypt forests create the ideal photo opportunity.
The Three Sisters
The Indigenous inhabitants of the Blue Mountains believed that the Three Sisters – named Meehni (922 m), Wimlah (918 m), and Gunnedoo (906 m) – were turned to stone to protect them from being kidnapped by another tribe’s men. The elder that turned them to stone was killed in the ensuing battle and nobody was able to turn the sisters back. You can see the Three Sisters from Echo Point, resplendent in the morning sunlight.
The magnificent Jenolan Caves are reached by following the scenic Cliff Drive. You’ll enjoy a guided tour through these fascinating and beautiful caves – the oldest open cave system known to men – being awe-inspired by the lit stalagmite and stalactite formations along the way. The caves stretch a whopping 40kms through a multi-tiered network – many of which remain unexplored. The Indigenous locals called this place ‘Binoomea’, meaning ‘dark places’.
Lucas Cave is the largest and most popular cave at Jenolan Caves. While here, you’ll be taken to the ‘Cathedral’ – a 54 metre high chamber that is often used to host concerts, due to its amazing acoustics. If Lucas cave is unavailable, you’ll instead be taken through the ‘Imperial Cave’. (Please note that the guided tour of Lucas Cave has over 900 steps. You will need to be able to walk unassisted to participate in the tour.)
*Looking for a more intense cave experience? Book the add-on Adventure Caving option to super-charge your day. Pull on overalls, a hard hat and a miner's light to experience the thrill of crawling through unlit caves with an experienced guide, as the pioneers did. Abseil 10m down into the Elder Cave. You slowly make your way down approximately 100m, exploring through roomy caverns and snaking through narrow tunnels, eventually coming out in the Imperial Cave far below. *Please note, to undertake this add-on experience, you must be reasonably fit and agile, wear sturdy footwear and not be concerned with confirmed spaces. (minimum age 10yrs and children 10-15yrs pay adult price for add-on option)
Before you return to Sydney, you’ll experience the wonder of Blue Lake – a body of sapphire-coloured water that has gained its spectacular tint as a result of the minerals from the Jenolan Caves. This spot makes for amazing photo opportunities and is often the site for wedding photography, such is its beauty.
At the end of the day (approx. 7:15pm), you’ll be returned to your Sydney accommodation or Star City Coach Terminal.
