Launceston Tours
Located just 198 kilometres (123 m) from Hobart, Launceston is Tasmania’s second largest city and the state’s only inland city. Nestled within the North Esk and South Esk River junction, where these estuaries turn into the Tamar River. This attractive city – one of Australia’s oldest – is resplendent with historical Colonial and Victorian architecture, gorgeous natural surroundings and is a popular hub for its food, wine and culture. Launceston is also a city of firsts, being the first Australian city to install underground sewerage, the first to be lit by hydroelectricity and the first in the Southern Hemisphere to use anaesthetic.
Launceston’s modern amenities combined with its quaint charm and friendly village atmosphere makes it the perfect base from which to explore nearby areas and attractions. Very close to the city, Cataract Gorge is one of the region’s most popular natural attractions. Scenic walking and hiking trails give access to the swimming pool, gorgeous gardens, wildlife-filled wilderness, a suspension bridge and a number of scenic lookouts. You can also experience the longest single span chairlift in the world here, before enjoying a lunch at the local café. A little further afield, you can experience the delights of the Tamar Valley wine region, as well as a number of historical villages, specialty farms and the stunning rolling countryside. Narawntapu National Park is the place to be for nature and wildlife lovers.
Back in Launceston City, the art galleries, museums, boutique stores, breweries, fine dining options and cute accommodation make this city one of Australia’s best!
