Tour Description
This night-time adventure into Springbrook National Park is a wondrous journey of discovery, as you uncover the spectacular glow worms of the Gondwana Rainforest World Heritage Area. Followed by dinner at Emerald Lakes Golf Club, this is an experience like no other.
• Visit the Gondwana Rainforest World Heritage Area after dark and count the number of nocturnal creatures you'll meet.
• Delight in the spectacular light display emitted by the rainforest's colony of glow worms.
• Enjoy a delicious meal, tea and coffee at Emerald Lakes Golf Club.
Depart at approximately 5:30pmn from your Gold Coast hotel and travel to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for a wonderful evening shared with the extraordinary glow worms and nocturnal animals of Springbrook National Park. Sugar gliders, brushtail possums, quolls, lyrebirds and koalas, are just some of the beautiful nocturnal creatures you can expect to see and hear on your night-time adventure. The watchful eye might also encounter birds, frogs, reptiles and mammals.
Situated in the magnificent Gondwana Rainforest World Heritage Area; a place of natural beauty with lush rainforest, cascading waterfalls and ancient trees, Springbrook Park's night time tour is simply breathtaking. Armed with a torch (provided), you will traverse the unique geology of this ancient area, its nocturnal fauna and rare flora, en route to the Natural Bridge circuit of rocky overhangs. Natural Bridge, the lip of what was once a waterfall, is made of hard basalt rock that has been eroded into the shape you see today.
You will gasp in wonder as you draw near the dark, moist cavern and steep earth banks of the Natural Arch Cave, which pulses with a luminous blue-green light emitted by the tiny glow worms. Under the canopy of the starry southern skies, these tiny creatures perform a natural light show that is a true spectacle.
Emitting a galaxy of light from beneath the cave roof, the glow worms, so named for their ability to emit brilliant light from their tiny bodies, are actually a species of primitive fly larvae, correctly named Arachnocampa. Their bioluminescent display is designed to lure prey such as mosquitoes. Unique to the wet Gondwanan caves, the Arachnocampa glow worms rely on the dense rainforest canopy for their survival.
Following your exquisite night-time adventure, you will enjoy a two course meal with tea and coffee at the delightfully popular Emerald Lakes Golf Club on the Gold Coast, before being returned to your Gold Coast accommodation at around 10:30pm.
